Our history
Almost 800 years of resilience, a castle complex that has never been conquered, set in a landscape steeped in history and tales. The castle, the Vorburg, the Amtshaus, the dairy farm and 130 hectares of woodland, fields, orchards and vineyard-covered hills. Since 1254, Schloss Frankenberg has ruled, protected and shaped the region around the municipality of Weigenheim in southern Steigerwald. Here, at an altitude of 498 metres on the Herrschaftsberg, generations of Frankish knightly families resided. Their virtues included loyalty, obedience, protection of the weak, respect for women, generosity and courage.
Thanks to the loving and careful restoration of the ancient walls as part of the European Heritage Project under the current owner, Schloss Frankenberg presents an architecturally and historically significant gem at the heart of the cultural triangle comprising Nuremberg, Würzburg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and makes a significant contribution to the preservation of the region’s cultural heritage, which we wish to safeguard responsibly for future generations. During our ever-popular castle tours, we bring this history back to life for our visitors and guests.
