SCHLOSS FRANKENBERG WINERY

AN AMBITIOUS NEW BEGINNING

E

Every new beginning, wrote Hermann Hesse, has an inherent magic. The new beginning of the Schloss Frankenberg estate was initially characterised by work. When the renowned oenologist Maximilian Czeppel came to the winery, there were a few beautiful old barrels of wine, but no philosophy, no concept, no well thought-out production, no team. Within the first four years, the first - new - Silvaner and Rieslings came onto the market; today, the plaques on the castle gate attest to quality of great range. Frankenberg wines are honoured by Gault & Millau, the Eichelmann wine guide, the Vinum wine guide and the Falstaff wine guide. Over 20 types of wine are produced, including a Secco and a sparkling wine Méthode Champenoise. Development enough for Falstaff to write of one of the "most ambitious wine projects in Franconia".

Just the beginning for Frankenberg. The castle estate aims to become one of the best wineries in Germany. To achieve this, the team is working on every nuance of the winemaker's craft: with targeted soil cultivation, self-produced organic fertiliser, a targeted selection of suitable grape varieties, hand-picking in almost all vineyards, strict selection of the grapes and deliberately restrained cellar work.

You can taste this in the Silvaner, Riesling and Pinot Blanc wines, but also in rarer varieties such as Blauer Sylvaner and Roter Traminer. The potential unfolds in all three lines: the castle wines, the wines from the Louisenberg, and the selection wines. And even though Sylvaner accounts for almost 40 per cent of the 22 hectares under cultivation and the Bocksbeutel wine route runs next door, the Schlossgut is not interested in typical Franconian styles. The full, flavoursome, rich wines are bottled in elegant Schlegel bottles. Every new beginning, as the ambitious Schlossgut project makes clear, also harbours many opportunities.

OUR WINES

THE QUALITY PYRAMID

Every wine from every vintage is a new creative composition, an interplay of unique factors that must be carefully, precisely and consistently brought together and directed.

SELECTION WINES

The absolute pinnacle of the quality pyramid: Vines over 40 years old in selected prime locations provide the grapes for our Selections wines, most of which are allowed to mature for up to 10 months in French barriques and tonneaux.

FRUITY SWEET WINES

Riesling and residual sweetness are a dream team! Moderate in alcohol, with aromatic fruit and racy acidity, the Kabinett is a fresh soloist, the Spätlese an elegant accompaniment to food.

VINEYARD WINES FROM THE LOUISENBERG

Steep slopes, sunny sites, monopole sites - the Louisenberg produces exceptional quality wines in every respect, which powerfully reflect their grape variety and the millions of years old Keuper soils.

CASTLE WINES

The fresh castle wines are genuine Frankenberg wines, juicy, typical of the variety, wonderfully accessible and simply delicious - every sip makes you want more!

Maximilian Czeppel

Passion, craft, quality selection

After training as a winemaker and studying viticulture and oenology, Maximilian Czeppel continued to develop his knowledge and skills in various renowned wineries in Germany and northern Italy. During this time, he developed his own signature style. His high-quality, enjoyable and individual wines are the result of meticulous work in the vineyard and targeted, moderate manual intervention in the wine cellar. The production of exciting and full-bodied wines is the combination of great passion, traditional craftsmanship, scientific influences and the gathering of a wealth of experience from the vineyards and plots. Only when all the components fit together do the best awards become the norm. Maximilien Czeppel works to bring out the very best in selected wines at Schlossgut Frankenberg - as operations manager, cellar master and in the field.
